A co-ferment of 15+ native varieties from a single century-old vineyard — red and white grapes together on granite at 2,500ft. Light on its feet, quietly complex, and from a place most people have never heard of.
Tinta Gorda, Malvasia, Bastardo Preta, Bastardo Branco, Verdelho, Russo, Tinta Fina, Tinta Bruñal and others • Trás-os-Montes • Concrete • 1,203 bottles
Same village, same winemaker, different vineyard. The Urç comes from a single 1.1-hectare plot of century-old mixed vines on granite soils at 2,500ft in the Planalto Mirandês — higher and more granitic than the clay plots of the Ciste Branco. More than 15 native varieties, 50% red, 50% white, all destemmed and co-fermented together in concrete, pressed at the end of fermentation. 10 months in concrete before bottling unfined and unfiltered. 1,203 bottles of 75cl and 791 of 1.5L.
The tradition of co-fermenting red and white grapes from mixed plantings is almost gone everywhere else in Europe. In Uva it never left.
