Every year, Elisa and Rubén pick a different corner of Spain and a forgotten grape. For 2024 they travelled to La Orotava in Tenerife for Listán Negro — a historic Atlantic variety grown on volcanic soil at barely 200 metres, as far from Cuéllar as you can get while still being Spain.

Uvas Nómadas is Malaparte’s travelling wine project: one chapter per vintage, one native grape, one region that deserves more attention. The 2024 comes from 40-year-old Listán Negro vines in La Orotava, one of Tenerife’s most celebrated wine valleys, at 200 metres on poor volcanic soils with a remarkable yield of just 300kg/ha. Hand-harvested in late September in 20kg crates, fermented spontaneously in open 225 and 300-litre barrels with indigenous yeasts, then moved to barrel for 12 months before cold stabilisation and bottling. 11.5% alcohol, 1,500 bottles made.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: red cherry, wild herbs, Atlantic mineral note, subtle floral lift
Palate: light, fresh, vibrant acidity, volcanic mineral edge
Texture: featherlight, barely tannic, almost silky
Finish: clean, saline, and persistently mineral
